*Than talo kham – A Place Under the Sun* is a text that questions multilayered narratives about the Roma—historical, literary, and everyday—as well as the broader figure of the outsider and the ‘us–them’ binary that shapes social discourse and power relations. The title refers to an archetypal human need: the need to belong, to be seen and acknowledged, to occupy a space that is rightfully ours—not as a privilege, but as a basic human right. The text is conceived as a process—a living tissue that grows through staged readings, conversations with the audience, and confrontation with its own ruptures. In this process, it questions where the narrative unintentionally reproduces the very patterns it seeks to critique and dismantle, where it opens wounds rather than agency, and where space can be created for counterpoints. These counterpoints aim to shift focus from the image of Roma as perpetual victims of history toward the image of agents—people who, within that same history, find spaces for life, resistance, joy—and their own place under the sun. In this sense, the staged readings function as both a search and an invitation to collective reflection.
