According to Sandra Maksimović, Serbian language and literature teacher and director of the play, the project A.N.A. “Shelters of Slobodište” was inspired by the idea of interpreting the The Diary of Anne Frank in order to gain deeper and more comprehensive insights into its universal themes—suffering, war, freedom, and violence.
Alternativni centar za devojke invites you to the play “Shelters of Slobodište”, performed by the drama section of OŠ Sveti Sava. The performance will take place on Wednesday, May 26th at 6 PM at AKC Gnezdo.
While exploring the diary, the participants also sought to express something about themselves, their generation, the time they live in, and the society around them, including its prejudices. None of the participants initially imagined that this project would become their personal journey—from Shelter to Freedom.
The play has won first place at FEŠT, along with awards for best script, direction, leading male role, ensemble performance, stage and video design, and stage movement.
The performance is part of the Public History Festival, organized by Alternativni centar za devojke in cooperation with the Center for Applied History, with support from the Open Society Foundation Serbia.
