The Shortest Shadow

Dear visitors, we present to you an artistic concept that won first prize in the AKC “Gnezdo” gallery competition for the 2022 season.

Danijela Vučković (born 1976), author, choreographer, and performer in the field of butoh dance, will perform the piece “The Shortest Shadow” at AKC “Gnezdo”.

Through this performance, the artist seeks to transform present reality and bring awareness to the shadow (the dark side of personality that each of us possesses), in a cause-and-effect relationship with light (the good we strive toward). A person constantly chooses which path to take through a labyrinth, at one moment leaning toward light and in the next entering shadow, while the labyrinth should be understood as the social environment that society constructs around the individual.

Applications for the competition were evaluated by a four-member council of the AKC “Gnezdo” gallery. The competition was supported by the Ministry of Culture and Information within the project “Annual Gallery Program of AKC Gnezdo 2022.”
