Dear audience, We invite you to the performance A Place for a Good Woman Worker, which will take place on Saturday, October 10 at 7 PM. Admission is by donation, according to your means.
A Place for a Good Woman Worker combines elements of cabaret, lecture, and public discussion. Its initial situation is conceived as a self-help and support group meeting of four women connected by their work experience. All four work in arts and culture. All four work, or have worked, as teachers. In this performance, they examine contemporary social realities and issues surrounding work in culture and education in Serbia today.
The authors explore questions such as what kind of teachers and teaching are needed today, what role education plays in contemporary society, how far teachers and teaching can influence young people, and how to deal with the inertia of an education system in which almost every meaningful attempt at modernization and experimentation seems doomed to fail.
The first version of the performance was created during the pandemic, and the text has since been revised and developed in response to various events that have profoundly affected education and society as a whole, including the tragedy at Vladislav Ribnikar Elementary School and the school and university blockades that have taken place since November 1, 2024. The authors therefore also address the impact of these events on the education system and on society more broadly.
