Watch a stage interpretation of the forgotten and once-banned work by Serbian surrealist poets Dušan Matić and Aleksandar Vučo, created in the 1930s. The performance is based on the poem “Marija Ručara”, a work that directly addresses workers’ issues in the truest sense of the word.
“Even in the present day, Marija Ručara speaks powerfully about the position of women workers and represents a clear cry of disenfranchised women, as well as all those who have been silenced and whose opinions about the city and country they live in are ignored—while the loudest call remains that of profit, and the brutal exploitation of people, nature, and land is visible at every step.”
The guest performance was part of the festival “Na sopstveni pogon” by the Asocijacija Nezavisna kulturna scena Srbije, and it was wonderful to see it as part of the 5th Birthday of Gnezdo! 🎭✨
