Cultural Zone, an independent cultural center from Novi Kneževac in the flatlands of Banat, invites you to an exhibition featuring the work of three of its artists—authors who demonstrate that our horizons are far broader than what can be seen from the fields. :) A fertile plain, the lowland part of the hilly Balkans, through which the Tisa River flows lazily. It seems peaceful.
🌾 Ivana Popov – “Marshland”
In the photographic series Marshland, the plain is more than just a landscape—it becomes a state of being. Animals, fields, water, and sky appear as fragments of collective memory, somewhere between documentary and dream. Digital intervention is not used to transform reality, but to reveal it, highlighting how nature today is both present and disappearing at the same time. Ivana’s images emerge at the intersection of photography, graphic art, and the inner landscape, where rural motifs become archetypes of movement, silence, danger, and survival.
🍷 Goran Novakov – “Cookbooks”
Through his illustrations, Goran observes and interprets various social phenomena, current events, everyday absurdities, and small life stories that we all recognize. His drawings depict them through a distinctive Vojvodinian sense of humor, infused with irony, warmth, and that familiar outlook on life that can be both funny and serious at the same time. Cookbooks are not merely illustrations—they are commentaries on our times, told through the language of humor and the everyday life of the plains.
🌵 Igor Lazin – “Los Kumbijanos”
And then, unexpectedly—cumbia in the middle of Banat. Psychedelic Latin rhythms through the eyes of a true Vojvodinian. Los Kumbijanos are eccentric musicians inspired by Mexican and Colombian styles, dressed in traditional costumes yet transported into a world entirely their own, complete with two languages, three arms, and cactus musicians. Their poses, forms, and energy follow the rhythm of a wild, psychedelic cumbia, as if someone had pressed play on a cumbia record in the middle of a field and left it spinning until sunrise.
We look forward to seeing you at the opening. We’ll be bringing pork cracklings, fresh bread, lard, and paprika. 🙂
