Critics have described AB RE as “theatrical jazz with Balkan folk motifs,” and more recently the band has earned the flattering label of Serbia’s “jazz in opposition” ensemble. Their musical expression is a unique blend of diverse styles and influences.
Their debut album, MORE NAPETO, was released in 2020 on the Krokodil Studio label from Pančevo, Serbia. The ten tracks were recorded live in the studio with minimal post-production intervention. The release was accompanied by a series of animated music videos, publicly available on the band’s YouTube channel, which also received notable airplay on several television stations, including Serbia’s national broadcaster.
A creative approach free from artistic constraints has brought the band success through a range of remarkable experiences extending beyond the realm of music. Highlights include:
Musical collaboration with the French associations OKUP and L’Assoce Pikante, including reciprocal performances in Strasbourg, Belgrade, and Novi Sad;
Collaboration with contemporary circus artists gathered around the international Cirkobalkana project (concerts, live musical accompaniment for circus cabarets, and Open Stage improvisations);
Composing and performing music in theatre productions with students from the acting class of Professor Predrag Ejdus, presented at Sterijino Pozorje Youth Stage, the Bojan Stupica Stage of the Yugoslav Drama Theatre, Zvezdara Theatre, the National Theatre, and UK Vuk in Belgrade;
Creating and performing their own theatre-circus musical production for children;
Composing and performing music for children through the independent project AB RE DECO in preschool institutions across Belgrade;
Collaboration with visual artists on animated films based on compositions from AB RE’s studio albums. These works enjoyed a highly successful festival run, including screenings at the 66th March Festival (Belgrade), SUPERTOON (Šibenik), SICAF (Seoul, South Korea), ANILOGUE (Budapest), FIGARI FILM FEST (Olbia, Italy), Balkanima (Belgrade), ANIMAFEST (Gdańsk, Poland), the Japanese-Serbian Film Festival (Belgrade), CINEMATIKA (Gdańsk), Animocje (Poland), RIBALTA (Italy), IFFC (India), Cinanima (Portugal), Music Art Film Craft Fest (Wisconsin, USA), Animaphix (Italy), Marin County International Festival of Short Film (California, USA), Trebinje Film Festival (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Musica en Foco (Brazil), as well as numerous online video-on-demand festivals.
The list of music festivals and notable performances is even longer; among the most significant are:
Kontakt Conference 2026
Refract Festival
Umbria Jazz Festival – Balcanic Windows
F.A.C.E. Festival
EXIT ’06
Cirkobalkana (Belgrade and Zagreb)
OKUP Caravane No. 4 Festival (Strasbourg, France)
DEV9T (Belgrade)
and many others.
The members of AB RE regard their work within the band as an ongoing musical experiment. Beyond creating music, the group aims to build a platform for broader artistic collaboration across disciplines. They proudly look back on partnerships with numerous artists, including:
Predrag Ejdus (actor)
Nebojša Romčević (playwright)
Predrag Stojmenović (director)
Viktor Kiš (sculptor)
Vanja Vikalo Linnch (animator)
Milan Manić (circus artist)
Dragan Đorđević (sculptor)
Srđan Đuranović (film director)
Vladimir Milisavljević (director)
Miloš Tomić (animator and film director)
and many others.
The band’s second studio album, ABER, was released in September 2023. Alongside the concert promotion of the album, the group continued its creative work and preparations for future releases.
Their latest album, AB RE LIVE @ Paškanat ’25, was released in October 2025 and features eleven tracks, including two new compositions that hint at upcoming projects currently in development.
