Basel Adra is a young Palestinian activist from Masafer Yatta who has been fiercely resisting the forced displacement of his community by Israeli authorities since childhood. Basel documents the gradual erasure of Masafer Yatta as soldiers destroy families’ homes—representing the largest single act of forced displacement ever carried out in the occupied West Bank.
His path crosses with Yuval, an Israeli journalist who becomes his companion over more than half a decade as they struggle against the expulsions and grow increasingly close. The extreme inequality between them shapes their complex bond: Basel lives under brutal military occupation, while Yuval lives in freedom.
This film, a Palestinian-Israeli co-production by a four-person collective of activists, was created during the darkest and most harrowing period in the region as an act of creative resistance against apartheid and a search for a path toward equality and justice.
After the screening, there will be a discussion led by philosopher and journalist Ivan Milenković with guests.
The tour is supported by the Government of Switzerland within the “Culture for Democracy” project implemented by the Hartefakt Fund @heartefact_.
