AKC GNEZDO STANDS WITH TARA:
Posts have appeared on social media targeting our friend Tara Rukeci Milivojević by name and surname, on a national basis. Tara is a workers’ rights activist from the Zrenjanin Social Forum, and these attacks are related to the organization of a counter-protest against the “People’s Patrols” and their anti-immigrant protest in Belgrade, which was ultimately canceled.
The truth is that Tara has spent many years promoting trade union organizing and encouraging workers in Serbia to organize and fight for their rights. Large companies bring in labor from abroad in order to lower wages and working conditions, undermining workers’ unity by turning workers against one another, as well as turning us against each other more broadly.
In the context of the current global situation, where different religious, racial, ethnic, and other groups are being blamed for crime and overall social collapse caused by the wealthy and powerful, remaining silent about this means normalizing it.
That is why we want to say clearly: we stand in solidarity with Tara, and we will not stop believing in her, supporting her, and fighting alongside her.
